We have a 72-hour rule, with a "drop dead" date as well.
We still submit hand-written grade sheets to the Registrar's office, who
then inputs them into the system. Given the high potential for
transcription errors, I've often wondered why we don't go an electronic
submission scheme. I've also wondered how high the error rate is, but in
fifteen years, I've never had a student come forward to complain about
an incorrectly recorded grade (of course, they wouldn't necessarily know
that their grade was an error).

Subject: Re: End of Term Grade Policies
UNO now uses five business days. We had tried the 48 hours game, but
then
everyone want an exam time on Friday since Saturday and Sunday did not
count.
Once our grade posting went computerized (i.e., faculty -must- use the
web
to submit grades to the Registrar) the Registrar finally understood the
wide variety of "courses" and exam times. Now, final grade may be
submitted for all courses as early as four weeks prior to the end of the
semester for most courses and as much as two weeks after the end of the
semester for most courses. But, we still say five working days.
First offenders are reminded of the rule. Repeat offenders get an oral
warning from the department Chair that includes the information that the
Provost will deliver the next warning.
