Since this was a personal appointment of the Queen herself in those days, this
should not have been a surprise to her. Presumably, also, she would have known
about O'Gorman before appointing him to this office. It is unlikely she would
grant him this high patronage having condemned him to death some years earlier,
and given the large number of distinguished candidates for that appointment.
Intuitively, these chaps sure seem to have done a lot of world travelling and
installing themselves politically in a short time.
