Hotep all,

Please sign up for iAbolish and take action to help free our sistas and
brothas in the Sudan. iAbolish keeps you informed on the struggle and
makes it really easy to participate in it via writing letters and donating
money. This is part of what it means to represent "Blackness" or
Africaness; and, if you are not Black or African, then join in as part of
the human family fighting against social injustice! ...by any means
necessary, Kamau.

> Dear Darryn Roberts,
>
> Even as the Sudanese government speaks of peace at the
> negotiating table with the Southern Sudanese, they have launched
> a new campaign of terror in the Western Darfur region.
> Government-supported militias have begun ethnically cleansing
> the Black Muslim tribes indigenous to the area, and there have
> been reports of village raids akin to the slave raids once
> conducted against the Southern Sudanese.
>
> Following the Sudanese government's declaration last week that
> it would open the war-torn Darfur region to humanitarian aid,
> the American Anti-Slavery Group called for the regime to also
> allow comprehensive, independent, and unfettered investigations
> of reported abductions that may have led to slavery.
>
> Send this letter to international leaders and let them know that
> you will not be silent in the face of genocide and slavery.

> President George W. Bush
>
> ----THIS LETTER WILL BE SENT IN YOUR NAME----
> Dear [decision maker name automatically inserted here],
>
> I am writing to urge your administration to launch a
> multinational investigation into the abductions in Darfur.
>
> Tom Vraalsen, the UN secretary-general's special envoy for
> humanitarian affairs for Sudan, stated "the humanitarian
> situation in Darfur has quickly become one of the worst in the
> world." In the midst of some 700,000 displaced people there are
> alarming reports of government-allied Arab militia known as
> "Janjawid" abducting Black Muslims of the Massaleit, Fur, and
> Zaghawa communities and potentially enslaving them.
>
> These accounts bear a startling resemblance to past slave raids
> conducted by government-supported militias against the south
> Sudanese Christians and animists.
>
> Khartoum's history of support of the enslavement of black
> Sudanese and complacency in emancipating those slaves leads me
> to believe that this human rights crisis cannot and will not be
> dealt with internally. Unless the international community takes
> a stand against this genocidal campaign, countless Black
> Africans may remain victims of chattel slavery.
>
> I urge you to:
>
> - Lead the world in demanding that the Sudanese government open
> up Darfur to investigations of violations of international law,
> including slavery.
>
> - Bring a greater humanitarian response to the crisis created by
> Sudanese Government forces and allied militia.
>
> I look forward to your positive response.
>
> ----END OF LETTER TO BE SENT----
>
> Sincerely,
> Darryn Roberts

> Sudanese Ambassador to US Khidir Haroun Ahmed
