Dear Graduate Students:

I hope that this message greets you well. I wanted to inform you of three
exciting program/procedural issues related to Responsible Conduct of
Research that may be of benefit to you as part of your graduate training
here at Miami University:

1) The OARS is sponsoring a series of workshops in the Fall and Spring
on issues related to Responsible Conduct of Research. The title of the
first workshop, which is being held on Tuesday, November 13, from 12:30-
2p.m., is “Ethics, IRBs and Internet Research: A Workshop for
Researchers.” This workshop will be facilitated by two researchers with
expertise in this area—Dr. Heidi McKee, Assistant Professor of English at
Miami and Dr. James Porter, Professor of Writing, Rhetoric and American
cultures at Michigan State University. The workshop is free and a box
lunch will be provided. Space is limited and registrations are currently
being accepted. A flier with additional details and registration
information is attached. Please distribute accordingly.

2) The Institutional Review Board is currently accepting electronic
submissions for new protocol applications. We are currently in the pilot
stage, but in the Spring it will be strongly suggested that all
applications be submitted in this format. For individuals who are
interested in submitting electronic submissions, the application should be
submitted in the form of a pdf to ([log in to unmask]) and one signed
original sent to OARS in 102 Roudebush Hall. Researchers should condense
the application and all supporting documents into one file. If individuals
have any questions, they may contact Ms. Terri Brosius at 529-3734.

3) The second workshop in the RCR series will be focused on conducting
power analysis for animal care and human subjects research projects. This
workshop will be held in the Spring. Details and registration information
will be distributed in the near future.

I hope that you will find this information to be helpful. If you have any
questions about this email, please let me know.

Thank you,

Jhan
