The Miami Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists will
hold a meeting Monday, March 29, 6 p.m. in the Bachelor Reading Room. The
purpose of the meeting is to establish a slate of officers for next year.
All SPJ members are encouraged to attend.
We will need to fill president, vice president, secretary and
treasurer positions. We will also need people to assume positions as key
chairs such as programming, freedom on information and ethics.
To be eligible for office, you must be a member of SPJ and the
Miami Chapter. If interested in an office show up and tell us what you'd
like to see SPJ do next year and how you can help accomplish that.
Speaking of SPJ, the Cincinnati chapter is co-hosting the
Mega-Regional Conference in Cincinnati, Friday and Saturday, April 9-10.
Actually, the two-day event will be in Covington at the Riverview Hotel.
That's the round one. Students pay $55 and get a dinner Friday and Saturday
night as wll as an invitation to a cocktail party Friday evening. Terry
Anderson will be the keynote speaker Friday night and the student awards
presentation will be Saturday evening. In between are a lot of helpful
workshops, everything from beat writing to training your brain to think
better and more creative.
There will be students there from most major universities in Ohio,
Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky.
Professionals will be on had from all the major markets (Chicago,
Pittsburgh, Detroit, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Columbus, Lexington,
Louisville and Cincinnati) so this is an excellent chance to network for
the job you need when you graduate. For more information contact Kevin
Smith or Patti Gallagher.
