PUBLIC RELATIONS INTERN, fall 2008

Goggin Ice Center seeks pr interns for 2008-2009 academic year.

JRN students receive 3 credit hours for 10 hours of work a week for 15
weeks.  Typically, upon good job performance, the student is offered the job
for pay 2nd semester.

Job Description

Objective
To help a student develop the combined public relations, marketing,
computer, and writing skills necessary to excel following graduation.

To Start Up
§       Contact News Bureau personnel to learn all University procedures
§       Learn Campus Media options
§       Contact all media sources (newspaper, cable, radio) to introduce
yourself, and update key media contacts
§       Learn how to send press releases
§       Learn about "photo files"
§       Learn Arena brochure, the programs and activities
§       Set up a "monthly calendar" of all events that require promoting.
To be used as the "promo guide."
§       Meet and get to know Arena staff and who programs what

 General Job Description
§       Learn and understand entire Goggin Ice Center operation
§       Write press releases on all upcoming Arena programming, events &
results of Arena activities
§       Distribute all press releases; communicate with media sources to
develop a personal relationship
§       Work with University News Bureau to follow proper procedures
§       Work with Miami Student and other local Specialty publications to
help publicize Arena activities
§       Utilize all publicity options, including cable, web, radio, message
boards, newspaper, direct mail, etc.
§       Seek out new avenues of Arena publicity
§       Provide ideas on feature articles on Arena staff/programs and
attempt to get printed
§       Assist/be a catalyst for the promotion & marketing of
programs/events
§       Distribute promotional material as requested
§       Assist with the marketing and promotion of all arena programs and
special events
§       Work closely with the ³Marketing Staff² to coordinate each marketing
plan
§       Create a Calendar of Events and deadlines monthly
§       Secure door prizes for Midnight Madness (2)
§       Keep the Goggin Ice Center's Director and Assistant Directors
updated constantly with thoughts, project ideas, current projects, along
with problems and/or concerns you are having, etc.
§       Write feature stories as requested
§       Approximate hours per week (including writing at home) - 10

 Every Monday
§       Present to the Assistant Director for Administration plans for
upcoming week, which includes releases, features, deadlines, etc.

insure they have had the coursework to be eligible.
