The John S. Knight Scholarship Committee is searching for five
college journalism students to award five prizes of $3,000 each.
Application deadline is March 1, 2000.
Sophomores, juniors and seniors studying any facet of journalism,
including print, broadcasting and photojournalism as well as public
relations are eligible.
The selection committee is chaired by members of the Akron
Beacon-Journal and applicants must be from the Akron area (Summit, Wayne,
Portage, Medina and Stark counties in Ohio; or attending scholl in the five
county area.)
For an application, contact Kevin Smith, 360 Bachelor Hall. You
must have samples of work, write a 350-word autobiography and a statement
of why you deserve the award.
The scholarship is made available by the Akron Press Club and the
Buckeye Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.
Being a member of SPJ isn't required, but it wouldn't hurt to join
the Miami chapter.
Good luck to all applicants.
Kevin
