Kevin, Here's your judging assignment from Rick Cassano and his
instructions. Give me your results and I'll return them to Rick.
It's very nice of you to do this. Thanks, John

There are five self-explanatory categories in each division. The top five
placers (or top whatever, if there are less than five entries) in each
category should be selected by the judges. There is no need for comments from
the judges - simply pick the top five. There will be a sheet in each category
packet asking for a list of the top five by social security number and date
of entry (the date is important, because many writers entered two stories per
category). No names, only SS numbers, will appear with the entries. When I
receive the winners back from you, I will match the numbers with the names I
have on file. The supplement and sports section categories will obviously
have the paper's name. Note that the supplement categories will occasionally
include a series of supplements to be judged as one entry (for example, I
recall one in particular that was entered as a weekly preview supplement
throughout the prep football season). In that situation, those papers will be
separated accordingly when I give them to you. It should be noted that all
stories must pertain to high school athletics, although it is understood that
supplements and sections may contain material other than high school
athletics.

I have arranged for the daily and non-daily photographs to be handled at my
end. There are quite a few total entries, so I thought it would be best to
not bury you with all of them.

I will be delivering the entries to Bachelor Hall at some point Thursday
afternoon with each person's name on their respective division(s). Since
there have been a few late additions, I will again list the number of entries
per category.

The goal is to have all the entries back in my hands by the end of the month.
The results will be released at the OPSWA annual banquet March 22 in
Columbus, but we need several weeks to deal with awards.

As I have said earlier, if you [meaning John Lowery] wish to get the
results back to me division by
division, I'm in Oxford enough to stop by and do that. I suppose everything
falls under "the sooner the better" heading. If you do want to give them to
me all at once, that's fine as well. It's up to you.

If any of the judges have any questions, they may contact me at work
(863-8200, Ext. 194 or [log in to unmask]) or home (939-2114 or
[log in to unmask]). Your help with this contest is greatly appreciated.
