Hello JRN Students,

As you think about classes for next semester (Fall 2011) please consider either of the following:

COM/JRN 314: Video Reporting

Want to add video reporting skills to your resume? If you want to work in journalism, you’ll need to be able to tell compelling stories in more than one format, including digital video. You can get a jump on the competition by considering JRN/COM 314 next semester. In this class, students will produce high quality work for air on (MUTV) and online. Examples of previous student work from 314 can be found at http://www.units.muohio.edu/jrn314.

During the fall 2011 semester the class will meet on Tuesday and Thursday from 2:15-3:30 in Williams 115C. There are two pre-requisites for the class: JRN 202 and COM 211 (or previous digital video production experience through internship or high school and permission of instructor.) I have also granted in some cases, student requests to take COM 211 and JRN 314 concurrently.

COM 267: MUTV Practicum

Looking for two credit hours to round out your 2011 fall semester plans? You could take golf, tennis or underwater basket weaving, but you might also want to consider COM 267 - Practicum in Electronic Media Production.

Students earn two hours non-graded credit in COM 267. In the past, the class has been largely filled by Mass Com students but I would like to invite any JRN student interested in television production to consider the course.

The class will be producing material for MUTV Cable Channel 15. During the fall semester the class crew the weekly production of Miami Magazine with head football coach Don Treadwell. We will also be producing original content for the channel as well throughout the semester. The size and scope of productions is quite varied- and based largely on your ideas.

There are many exciting new things happening now with regard to MUTV. Consider becoming a part of this- we'll meet Mondays from 12:45- 1:35 in Williams 107C.

COM 211 is a prerequisite for this class (or previous electronic media production experience and permission of instructor.)

Questions? Please ask.
