Dear JRN majors,

I will be teaching an experimental large section JRN 101 class in spring term -- TR 9:30-10:45 -- and am looking for several seniors (or juniors who are nearly finished with their JRN major and have experience as reporters) to enroll in the Undergraduate Associates (UA) program to help me with the class. The undergrad associates program is offered though Honors but is available to non-honors students. Honors students may do the program to earn credit as an honors experience.

I have attached an application for you to look over. This is a one-credit experience and requires a commitment of 30 hours for the semester. I will also be willing to expand this to an independent study project for those of you who are looking for more credits -- or possibly an innovative way to satisfy a JRN major requirement.

In terms of duties, I am looking for experienced reporters/editors to lead a small team of 101 students on a special project in which we aim for producing (in term of radio or TV) or publishing (in terms of print or online) a work of journalism. UAs will play a major role in figuring out what that special project will be. There will also be some editing and grading. For much of the formal course time, you will only be required to be at the Thursday class session which will involve meeting with your team.

If you are interested, please email me and let me know. If this requires a schedule change for you, please see me or Cheryl Gibbs about that.

Thank you.

RC
