Journalism Listservers:
Mike Gruss, May grad, started Aug. 19 as the lead education reporter for the
Fort Wayne Journal Gazette's four-county coverage area. He just finished an
internship at the Blade in Toledo. He's doing two to four weeks of general
assignment and then concentrating on education in Fort Wayne.
The paper is part of a joint operating agreement with the Ft. Wayne
News-Sentinel, which is an afternoon Knight-Ridder paper. He says it's going
to be a lot of work and even more school board meetings, but all the
reporters are under 30 and there's a lot of freedom for Sunday enterprise
pieces.
The paper itself is 60,000 circulation daily and 135,000 on Sunday.
He says he's living in an apartment in a fun, downtown, historic
neighborhood. The competition is supposed to be fierce and challenging and
he's very excited to start.
