From: [log in to unmask] (Jeff Pierron)
Date: Tue, October 5, 2004 2:59 am

To: Copy editors, newsroom supervisors, educators, students and others
From: The Ohio chapter of the American Copy Editors Society

Subject: Register now for the ACES/Ohio workshop!

The deadline is approaching fast, but there's still time to register for
the fifth annual ACES/Ohio copy-editing workshop on Sunday, Nov. 7, at
Miami University's regional campus in Hamilton, between Cincinnati and
Dayton.

Registrations must be received by Monday, Nov. 1, and there is a limit
of 200 participants for this fast-paced, lively workshop that will focus
on practical editing advice for journalists from papers of all sizes in
Ohio and beyond.

The speakers include Bill Chronister (Columbus Dispatch and ACES board
member), Deborah Gump (Ohio University), Neil Holdway (Daily Herald in
suburban Chicago), David Kordalski (Cleveland Plain Dealer), Teresa
Schmedding (Daily Herald in suburban Chicago and ACES board member) and
Brian Throckmorton (Lexington Herald-Leader). All have given
presentations at ACES or Society of Newspaper Design (SND) national
conferences.

For complete information about the workshop, including the schedule and
registration form, please visit the Ohio chapter Web site at
http://www.ohioaces.org . The site recently was updated with detailed
driving directions and hotel information.

The registration fee is $10 for ACES and SND members and all students,
and $25 for everyone else. The fee includes lunch and materials. Those
who join ACES in conjunction with the workship will receive the $10
rate, membership in ACES for a full year and the discount rate for the
2005 ACES national conference April 21-23 in Hollywood, Calif. Companies
will receive one free workshop registration for every 10 paid
registrations.

If you didn't receive a registration form and other information in the
mail or are unable to download the material from the Web site, you can
request to have forms and fliers sent to you via e-mail (Adobe Acrobat
PDFs) or "snail" mail. Just send a message to Jeff Pierron (Columbus
Dispatch) at [log in to unmask]

More than 140 journalists from Ohio and other states attended last
year's workshop, and we hope you'll join us this year. The modern,
sparkling Wilks Conference Center at Miami-Hamilton is a short drive
from both I-75 and I-275.

The American Copy Editors Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated
to fostering editing excellence, and speakers at state workshops and
national conferences appear free of charge. Proceeds from the Ohio
workshop will go to ACES to support the national organization's programs
for copy editors and students. See http://www.copydesk.org for more
information about ACES.

If you have any questions, please contact Jeff Pierron by e-mail or by
phone at 614-901-9631 (days) or 614-461-5157 (nights). Or you can
contact any other ACES/Ohio steering committee member, whose e-mail
addresses are listed on the chapter Web site.

We hope to see you in November!
