For all journalism students interested in working for media outlets
at this summer's national conventions, there will be a mandatory meeting at
6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22, 2000 in the Bachelor Reading Room.
This meeting is necessary to bring you up to date on the
development of the program. We also need to establish a definitive head
count for the conventions. Dr. Emil Dansker, founder and director of the
program will make a brief presentation. This meeting will take no more than
an hour.
For those of you who are uncertain of the program, it places
students at the Democratic and Republican national conventions for four
weeks (two at each convention). You will be assigned work detail with
various media outlets including AP, Reuters, UPI, and a host of large to
medium sized newspapers from around the country. Some will be asked to work
as film runners for the various wire services which will gainn you access
to the most exciting locations at the conventions. Others will be asked to
write daily stories for subscriber papers.
The cost is $50 for one convention and $75 for both. Room
accommodations are handled through the Washington Center and will cost you
$900 per week.
