Dear Educators:

Have you told your students about the National Lesbian & Gay Journalists
Association's (NLGJA) Leroy F. Aarons Scholarship Award?

The $5,000 scholarship award for 2006 will be granted to a lesbian, gay,
bisexual or transgender (LGBT) student who plans a career in journalism 
and
is committed to furthering NLGJA's mission of fair and accurate 
coverage of
the LGBT community.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate their passion and commitment to 
the
profession. Selection will be based on journalistic and scholastic 
ability.
Applicants also must demonstrate an awareness of the issues facing the 
LGBT
community and the importance of fair and accurate news coverage.

Applicants must be enrolled in the 2006-2007 school year to be eligible.

DEADLINE: Fully completed applications must be postmarked no later than
February 1, 2006. The recipient will be invited to and announced at
Headlines & Headliners, NLGJA's 11th Annual New York Benefit on 
Thursday,
March 16, 2006.
