Hello!

This is to let you know that, if you're a junior or senior, you could win as
much as $5,000 if you enter your work in the English Department's
competitive awards for upperclass students. Journalism entries are accepted
for two awards. To be eligible, the work must have been written in courses
above the 100 level by students enrolled in those courses during spring or
fall 2007. The deadline for submitting your work is March 24.

The awards for which journalism entries are accepted are as follows:

-- The Carl R. Greer/Andrew D. Hepburn Senior Prizes in English: First
prize, $5,000; second prize, $2,500; third prize, $1,700; and fourth prize,
$800.
-- The Edward J. Montaine Junior Prizes in English: First prize, $3,000;
second prize, $2,000 and third prize, $1,000.

Each entry must include a completed and signed official cover sheet,
available along with complete guidelines for all entries and specific
guidelines for all awards at this Web address:

If you have questions about these awards (and, if you are double-majoring in
Creative Writing or English Literature, you might want to check out the
other awards as well), please contact the English Department (if you ask us
journalism faculty folks, we'll just send you to them anyway).
