Hello!

I'm writing to tell you about a new JRN 350 class about Entrepreneurial
Journalism, to be offered in the spring.

It will be a very hands-on class in which we will begin by deconstructing
our assumptions about journalism, then work together in teams with faculty
and students from Miami's Interactive Media Studies and Entrepreneurship
programs to create new models for financially sustainable journalism. The
teams' projects will be entered in a statewide competition focused on new
business models for news.

The class will include field trips to businesses that have succeeded in
reinventing themselves in the Internet age as well as to journalism
organizations. We will share our work with editors and news directors from
news organizations that are partnering with us in the Miami-Whitewater
Valley Public Media Project.

We will have limited spots in the class for journalism students (only
eight), so if you're interested you will need to send me an e-mail with the
following information:

Your name and Banner ID number
Your class standing, majors (please make the distinction between
pre-journalism or accepted major) and whether you need a JRN 350 class to
graduate
Why you're interested in the class and what you think you'd have to offer
A list of journalism classes you've taken and the grades you've earned in
those classes
The name of a journalism faculty member who can recommend your work (unless
you've been in one of my classes)

If you're accepted into the class, you will be force-added.

If you have any questions, I'd be glad to answer them.

Thanks so much!

Cheryl
