Journalism majors:

There are still a few seats available in a new class called Design for
Digital Media (ART 353) for next semester. This new class is open to all
students and especially those interested in interactive media.

This may be an option for those of you who might have gotten locked out of
the Interactive Media capstone this semester, or for those who've decided
they want to know more about interactive design.

Many of you have expressed a desire for a more in-depth design class and the
Art Department has designed this one to be part of the new Interactive Media
Studies thematic sequence to be offered next fall. However, lucky for all of
you, the class will be taught starting in January.

Here are the details:
Credit hours: 3
Prerequisites: none
When: M/W/F 1-2:50 p.m.
Where: Room 207 Hiestand Hall

This course focuses on design for digital media, such as electronic
publications, website design, and/or interactive presentations, covering
some basic technical knowledge, but focusing on how graphic design and the
specific skills of the designer interface wit hthe unique needs of computer
users.
Specific areas to be covered include: the planning stages of digital design,
audience/user issues, web page basics and elements, page layout and design,
navigational design and user interface issues, use of tables and frames,
text and typography for the screen/web, use of color and graphics, basic
animation, software basics, publishing and testing, refinement and
troubleshooting.
