JUST A REMINDER THAT ENTRIES FOR THIS HAVE BEEN EXTENDED TO THIS FRIDAY. --
PGN

*************************************
Dear Journalism majors,

I am writing to call your attention to a couple opportunities that you may
not have heard of. In the English department, we give out awards in several
categories. Most of these recognize creative writing or critical essays
about literature, but a couple of these awards have specifically
*journalism* categories, and you are eligible to apply for these without
being English majors. The "Montaine" is for current sophomores (who will be
Juniors this coming fall) and the "Greer/Hepburn" is for current juniors
(who will be seniors in the coming fall).

There are *substantial funds* to be awarded this year, so applying for these
awards is definitely worth a quick trip to our website:

http://www.units.muohio.edu/english/Undergraduate/PrizesAwardsSchol/Awards.h
tml

It is fairly easy to apply, as you will see from reading about these awards
on the website. Basically, though, you simply submit a portfolio of
journalistic writing, a short cover essay contextualizing the portfolio, and
a coversheet (available on the website). You drop these materials off at the
front English department desk in 356 Bachelor Hall.

****NOTE WELL: the original deadline for this is MARCH 15, but we are
extending this deadline for the Journalism category to MARCH 22nd to give
any Journalism students a chance who have not yet heard about these
awards****

Let me know if you have any questions.

Best,

Patrick
