MU Society of Professional Journalists News:

Congratulations to December graduate Hallie Primrose. I will be filling
her role as SPJ president this semester. But don't worry, Hallie will
still be helping out with SPJ programming.

Our first event of the semester is this Wednesday, January 28 at Kona's
Bistro on High Street Uptown from 6-9 pm. Come and have your favorite
journalism professor or SPJ officer mix you a drink! We will be acting as
bartenders upstairs for Kona's community night. The best part-- all tips
go to MU SPJ! So come, eat, drink and bring friends. All ages welcome.

Graduating Seniors: If you haven't already joined SPJ, now is the time!
Not only does it look great on your resume and come with 10 issues of
"Quill" magazine, all members have online access to a job database. Visit
SPJ.org to join.

The deadline for the Ohio SPJ Award for Best Student Journalist is Jan.
31st. This category honors high school or college journalists that show
the most promise through published stories and academic standing. Just
submit six stories, a recommendation from a teach or adviser, and a grade
report. There is no entry fee and the prizes include two $500
scholarships. See www.ohiospjawards.org for more information.

Also watch for the entry forms for Miami's own SPJ contest, coming soon.

As always, if you have questions about MU SPJ, don't hesitate to e-mail me
