Hello!

If you have experience writing for a student publication and would like to
register for one independent study credit next fall BUT do the work from
home this summer, please contact me about an opportunity to write for the
Miami-Whitewater Valley Public Media Project (better known as Mi-Whi News).

Here's what this would involve: You would need to be free to go with me to a
meeting at Miami's Voice of America Center during the afternoon of April 26
(we would leave Oxford at 3:30 p.m. and return about 6:30 p.m.), where you
will interview up to 5 graduate students in education about research they've
done about public policy issues in education (a VERY hot topic right now,
given Obama's stated intentions re. education reform).

Sometime after the end of finals week but before the end of May, you would
read the research papers of the people you interviewed (the papers will be
vetted by their professor) and write a news story about their research
results. You then will post your story, along with photos and raw recordings
made on April 26, on the Mi-Whi News Web site along with the students'
papers. Last but not least, you will need to write a short reflection about
how you felt about this experience, and whether you think this might be a
workable model for making research papers more accessible to the public.

If you're interested, please contact me!

Cheryl
