The Dominion Post (Morgantown, W.Va.) is looking for two reporters
with some experience in daily journalism. The paper (25,000 cir.) in
Morgantown (35,000 pop., home to West Virginia University, 23,000 students)
wants reporters to cover city government or general assignment. The initial
hire will come by the first of the year. A second shortly thereafter, so
there may be a need for a reporter to cover the university as well.
Pay is based upon experience, but is in the mid-20s range.
Morgantown has been voted one of the most livable cities in the
United States (population under 100,000.) In addition to WVU, the city is
situated in the fast developing high-tech corridor, home to a growing
number of federal agencies and private sector computer companies. For those
interested in pursuring an advanced degree, WVU's school of journalism is
accredited and offers a master's in journalism, a short drive from the
newspaper's office. In the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains, Morgantown
is 65 miles south of Pittsburgh, 240 miles east of Washington, D.C. and
within four hours of Columbus, Cleveland, and Baltimore. Surrounded my
natural beauty, it is home to a number of outdoor activities such as
mountain biking, white water rafting, hiking, mountain climbing and
rapelling. The cost of living is reasonable. The Post is a family owned
paper over 100 years old and is a regular winner as best paper in the state.
