Journalism Students,
Looking for a way to get your reporting in front of a national audience and earn Miami’s SL service learning designation? You can do both in Journalism 421 next semester.
The course partners with Cincinnati Public Radio (WVXU 91.7 and WMUB 88.5 FM) to create original reporting on air and online. Reporting produced in the 2010 class was recently honored as the national winner (in depth radio reporting category) in the Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence competition. You can see sample this award winning work at:
http://www.wmub.org/student_features/index.asp
In other years, student reporting from the class has aired on radio stations in six states.
Students will also earn the SL designation upon completion of the course. This designation will appear on DARS, allowing students to demonstrate to graduate schools and potential employers that they have experience in the community, putting theory into practice.
The class will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00-3:15pm.
JRN 202 is a pre-requisite. There will be semi-regular regional travel (within 30 miles of campus) for the class.
Questions, please ask.
