Hello!

If you're interested in honing your skills as a journalist, The Miami Student would love to have you get involved with us this year!

Come to our training and information session at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, September 10 in Harrison Hall, Room 204. We'll talk about our expectations from you for when you write a story: deadlines, editing process, style notes, everything you need to know about getting started with The Miami Student. You don't have to be a journalism major to get involved.

Writing for us is a great way to get some experience writing and meet really cool people around the university. One of the best parts is that it goes out to real people - seeing your name in print and knowing that it's going all over campus is a really exciting and rewarding feeling.

Claire Wagner, Miami's communications director will be there to give you some tips on good reporting techniques, how to deal with Miami administrators when you're writing a story and ways to formulate good questions.

We're also starting a partnership with WMSR, the student radio station on campus, so if you're interested in making audio stories that will be played on the radio and go on our Web site, we have a lot of new opportunities for that and other forms of storytelling through multimedia.

If you can't come right at 4:30, it's okay to come late. Drop by before 5:30 and talk with our editors about getting involved. If you can't make it at all, send an e-mail to me or any of our editorial staff and we'll make sure to add you to our writer's list and get you started with some writing assignments.

Can't wait to meet all of you and get started working with you!
