                    *** DEC Fortran Upgrade ***
                    *** Changes and Enhancements ***
                    ********************************

On Tuesday, June 27, MCIS will be upgrading from DEC Fortran V6.1 to DEC
Fortran V6.2 on the MIAVX1 system. Below are summarized the significant
changes and enhancements to the user interface provided by this upgrade. A
more complete list of changes can be found in the file:
SYS$HELP:DEC_FORT062.RELEASE_NOTES.

Changes:
o Bug fixes.

New Features:
o Better IEEE support - now supports NaN and 128-bit floating point numbers
(REAL*16). In addition, this release provides better IEEE exception
  handling.
o Better optimization - adding the /OPTIMIZE=LEVEL=5 will cause the
  compiler to perform software pipelining.
o /MATH_LIBRARY={ACCURATE|FAST} - now supports 2 sets of math libraries.
The ACCURATE math library provide very accurate "near correctly rounded"
results. The FAST math library provides faster math support but with
slightly less fractional accuracy and less reliable arithmetic exception
  handling. The default is ACCURATE.
o I/O performance has been enhanced.
