On Wednesday, February 19, at around 2:00pm, the interactive portion (SEA)
of the MiaVX1 cluster began experiencing severe performance problems.
This problem probably appeared to users as a total lack of response from
the system. Any attempts to login probably timed out before completing.

MCIS forced a crash on the system at around 2:15pm to collect information
about the situation and to attempt to restore the system to a usable state.
Digital Equipment Corporation is investigating this problem.

While the system was down, MCIS applied a patch that Digital feels should
fix the problems experienced on Monday night and early Wednesday morning.
See the preceding news article for more information concerning these
problems.
