Most of the newsgroups have old, stale posts hanging around in them from
several months ago.  Why is this?  For example, rec.bicycling.marketplace
starts with post #4482 from 28-Jun and runs to 4505 from 29-Jun, then skips to
6837 from 29-Jul to 6838 on the same day, then skips all the way up to 7706 on
11-Aug.  This is just an example, seems like every group has this problem about
the same dates.  It appears as if the newer stuff is being removed but the
older stuff isn't.  It causes the count to be way off.  Is there anything that
can be done about it?
