Any way to use numeric IP address for FTP?

Is there any way to get the vax to accept a numeric IP address for ftp?  I
know it is a valid address, the mainframe will connect to it, but I can't
get the extra space I will need on the mainframe to download the programs
(Quickdraw GX Printer Drivers).  Is there any solution?
