On both the IBM VM/CMS system (MiamiU) and the DEC OpenVMS system in Oxford
(MiaVX1), your mail signature consists of a file you create in your account
that has a specific name the mail system is programmed to use.

On the IBM VM/CMS system (MiamiU), that file must be on your A disk and must
be named:
                              userid SIGNATUR A
where userid is your userid (for example, LAWMANLM SIGNATUR A ). To have
the mail program on MiamiU automatically append your SIGNATUR A file to
the end of each outgoing mail message you send, you also need to have a
file on your A disk named:
                              MAILUSER XEDIT A
which must contain the line:
                           SETMAIL SIGNATURE AUTO

On the DEC OpenVMS system in Oxford (MiaVX1), the file should be in your
account's (default) root directory and must be named:
                               MAIL.SIGNATURE
MiaVX1's mail program knows to automatically append MAIL.SIGNATURE to the
outgoing e-mail message you are editing.

The main difference between editing outgoing e-mail messages containing
a signature file on the two systems is that on MiamiU you won't see
your SIGNATUR file when you edit your message (it is attached 'invisibly'
to your completed message), while on MiaVX1 your MAIL.SIGNATURE will
appear in the message you are editing (so that you can modify it for that
specific message if you wish).
