When in NEWS, did you happen to press the Gold-KP7 key sequence (that's
PF1-PF4 in MS-DOS Kermit)?  That will do a print of the current article.
The reason I ask is that this is the same key sequence that gets you to the
command line in the editor.  I'm not sure what the error messages are that
you got.  I'd have to see the error messages before I could make a guess.
