The Miami Computing & Information Systems (MCIS) IBM RS/6000 AIX system (Rose)
is scheduled to be unavailable on Monday evening, 10 June 1996, from 5pm until
12 midnight, for an operating system upgrade from AIX 3.2.5 to AIX 4.1.4 by
MCIS Technical Support.

Services affected will include:

        *  Directory (PHonebook)

           The Directory will be unavailable for queries, either
           directly or through e-mail software (such as Eudora)
           and World Wide Web.

           Incoming mail redirection of all e-mail addressed to
                            [log in to unmask]
           simplified e-mail address aliases will be delayed.
           Incoming e-mail will be queued for redirection and
           delivery when the system returns to service.

        *  NetNews

           All NetNews newsgroup reading and posting access will
           be unavailable from all systems and through all World Wide
           Web (WWW) browsers. This includes any Netscape software
           configured to use NNTP.MUOhio.Edu or News.MUOhio.Edu as its
           NNTP Host.

        * Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) Service for Netscape Mail

           Any Netscape World Wide Web (WWW) browser client software that
           is configured to use MailFwd.MUOhio.Edu as its SMTP Host, will
           be unable to send mail from within Netscape during this outage.

        * Microsoft Mail (MSMail) & Pegasus Mail (PMail)

           Any electronic mail entering or leaving Miami's MSMail and
           PMail systems from or to the rest of the Internet will be
           delayed. Mail will be queued for processing and delivery
           when the system returns to service.

        *  Miscellaneous:

           + File Transfer Protocol (FTP) and World Wide Web (WWW) servers
              for m-media.muohio.edu will be unavailable during this outage.

           + Really old, really outdated Directory (PHonebook) query

              queries like this:

              http://rose.muohio.edu/cgi-bin/phquery/isindex?uniqueid

              should update their query URLs to read:

              http://www.muohio.edu/ph/ph.muohio.edu/105/isindex?uniqueid

           + Any system configured to use NTP.MUOhio.Edu as its Network
              Time Protocol (NTP) server will be out of time :-)
