CWIS Emergency outage notice for 12/07/97
Subject: MiaVX1 cluster outage 7 Dec (Sun)
 
The entire Digital OpenVMS cluster in Oxford (MiaVX1, and components Ocean,
Sea and Stream) will be unavailable for emergency system maintenance on
Sunday morning, 7 December 1997, from approximately 8 am until noon. This
maintenance applies vendor "patches" designed to alleviate the causes of
this semester's (unplanned) service distruptions.  Both the severity and
frequency of these distruptions necessitate this maintenance at such a busy
time of the semester.
 
The following network services will be unavailable for the duration of the
outage:
 
   *  Batch processes, including Gaus
 
   *  Directory (PHonebook)
 
      a/k/a ph.muohio.edu
 
Including searching, and incoming mail redirection to [log in to unmask]
addresses -- mail will be spooled for later delivery, not lost or returned
to sender.
 
  *  Electronic mail via POP / IMAP
 
     a/k/a po.muohio.edu
 
     Incoming e-mail will be spooled for later delivery
 
  *  HelpDesk Target software
 
  *  NetNews
 
     a/k/a nntp.muohio.edu
 
     All newsgroup reading and posting access
 
  *  World Wide Web
 
 
      a/k/a www.muohio.edu
 
      All central World Wide Web services
 
MCIS regrets this disruption but believes it mandatory to provide stable
