I'll let someone else answer the TTY question.  As to NTY, I think it
stands for network TTY.  That's just a guess, though.
 
All of the devices on VMS have a 3 letter designation for the type of
device.  SCSI disks are DKAxxx (or DKBxxx, DKCxxx, etc. depending on the
SCSI bus).  Remote terminals are RTA devices (do a SET HOST sometime and
look at your device).  Terminal server connections use LTA devices.
