OpenVMS is EXTREMELY picky about the terminal type.  OpenVMS, out of the
box, will only support VT style terminals (plus a few misc. DEC
terminals/printers) and Motif.  OpenVMS does provide a way to define new
terminal types, but not all applications support these new terminals
definitions.
 
Do you have a specific reason you want to use a different terminal type?
