Yes.  This problem came back this afternoon and then again tonight.  I
think I hope that I have it fixed permanently this time.  The error message
doesn't cause any harm other than not allocating the temporary space (the
problem we were originally trying to fix).

No.  It only allocates (and subsequently deallocates) temporary space if
you haven't already acquired it.  But, previously allocated space will not
receive the benefit of this fix, yet.  I may try to correct this over the
weekend or on Monday.
