The editor you're talking about is called EDT.
 
TPU should be the default editor.  If you're not getting TPU, there are 2
possible places to check to see what the problem is.  The command:
  NEWS> SET PROFILE/EDITOR=EDT
can be used in NEWS to set the editor to EDT.  In addition, the command:
  $ DEFINE NEWS_EDIT EDT
can be used at the $ prompt (or in your LOGIN.COM file) to set the editor
to EDT.
