We are again experiencing problems with NEWS on MIAVX1 and OCEAN. These
problems are characterized by the error message "Display - Cannot access
item text". These were the same problems that occurred on 2/7/94 and
2/14/94.

After the problem on 2/14/94, we got a fairly good picture of what was
happening. After analyzing the information we collected, we found that the
problem dealt with NEWS running out of memory. Since the information we
received from NEWS was not extremely detailed, we narrowed the cause of the
problem down to approximately 6 different areas. These 6 areas can be
summarized into 2 groups. 3 of the areas deal with the NEWS process itself
running out of a memory resource and the other 3 areas deal with the system
running out of a memory resource. We worked on the first 3 of these areas
(the NEWS process) in the hopes that they were the cause of the problems.
As you can see, they weren't.

We will continue looking into the system parts of the problem and will
formulate ways of tracking and fixing this problem.

More information will follow in this newsgroup as it becomes available.
