Down with bureaucracyof MCIS!

I can't stand reading about 2 month lag times. What is with those people?!

When you need new modems, get them. They know what they have now, buy more of
the same. It IS that easy. Call the company, order 21 new modems. Screw
going through the chain that slows our lives down. Upgrade Gandolf while you
are at it. It SUCKS! I don't want money excuses. They spent $2.2million on
the mainframe, why? spend it on an OPEN system. I hate the mainframe. it
sucks rocks. i refuse to answer any question on the mainframe. i feel sorry
for the users given accounts on the mainframe for email... There is NO
conceivable reason why Miami should stay in the dark ages and use an mainframe
with an interface that doesn't even scroll.

MCIS has been living in it's own little world for so long, they finally came up
for air with the new Alpha that's coming. I applaud them for at least one
thing, but back to these large lag times.

Gandolf is THE source of all outside connections. Keep it top-of-the-line for
God's sake. There is no excuse for Gandolf being in it's condition other than
that MCIS doesn't care about the student part of the equation. Miami doesn't
have a public UNIX machine?! vm/cms is outdated. as is mvs, and anything else
that runs on VM. The crusty faculty at Miami are possibly to blame for the
maintained presence of the mainframe. LEARN A REAL SYSTEM!

This is my tirade, typos and all. Flame me all you want. but you can't change
my mind about MCIS. If it were up to me, i would disband it and give the
campus' computer control to to SYSTEM ANALYSIS. (What? let the computer
education department run the big computer? never!). And the funding to each
department where they can better support their users w/o the bureaucracy of
MCIS.
