A bit of clarification regarding VAXShare that I left out of the
previous announcement:
> Miami Computing & Information Services (MCIS) will be installing a
> new version of VAXShare later today. VAXShare will be unavailable for
> approximately one hour -- 4-5pm -- this afternoon while the existing
> VAX version is replaced by an Alpha-optimized version.

VAXShare is a software program for DEC OpenVMS computing systems
such as the centrally managed, multi-user MiaVX1 system in Oxford.
VAXShare allows users to create a special subdirectory called
MACINTOSH in their MiaVX1 account. That subdirectory can be mounted as a
volume on any Macintosh with a full, dedicated network connection, and
appears as another icon on the user's Macintosh desktop. Files can then
be moved between the user's MiaVX1 account and their Macintosh desktop
in traditional Mac 'point and click, drag and drop' manner.

It is simple to install VAXShare in your MiaVX1 account by typing
the command MACSETUP at the MiaVX1 $ command line, and following the
on-screen instructions.

If you are a Macintosh and MiaVX1 user who does not yet use VAXShare
but would like to do so, please wait until after 5pm today (Monday, 13
March) to install VAXShare in your account, so that you will be set up
using the new, rather than the old, version.

If you have any questions, please contact the MCIS Help Desk by
e-mail at [log in to unmask] or by phone at 529-7900, and ask that your
call be queued to the OpenVMS liaison person (John Harlan). Thank you.
