I'll like to support this... the only way I can connect at 14.4 now
is to turn OFF all compression & error correction. Then it works, but I get
the line noise once in awhile and of course no compression. *shrug*

When I connect at 14.4 with all the extras, I get either one of two
things:

        * NO connect message from my modem, pause for a second or two, then
just TONS of garbage, then no carrier. This happens almost every
time I call in at 14.4 with extras.

        * I get the connect message, actually get the Gandalf prompt, but
then it assumes I hit enter three times, kicks me off due to
invalid responses, while the entire time sending me a nice string
of beeps. Joy. This hasn't happened in awhile, but then I
haven't tried connecting with extras in a while.

The 9600 lines work fine with compression & error correction,
though.
