How have you been attempting this?  I'm assuming that it was with "rz".
 
Most of the attempts I've ever made with rz failed.  This week (for the
first time in goodness knows how long) I got a successful batch upload to
the Alpha with "rz -b", but this is the exception in my experience.
 
I usually use Kermit when an xfer fails enough.
