Dear Margaret:

This somewhat adds to my concern just recently expressed. If it's primarily a Lit hire, we may not get our preference. If it's primarily CW (which it doesn't sound like), I wonder why Lit would want this hire over their other needs?

David

Won't this muddy the waters somewhat?

I fear the joint hire in general; I always suspect one group will not get what it really needs and will be doomed to live with that choice--in other words, will forfeit a chance to make the hire it really needs.

Subject: Hiring

Dear Colleagues,

     Here's what's happening.

It turns out, because there is a new, complicated form to fill out, that requests for hires aren't do until Monday.

I will put forward a request for a lecturer in fiction, as we discussed.

At the same time, I propose putting forward a request, in conjunction with literature, for a tenure-track hire who could teach Ethnic Literature, Latina/o, African American or Native American, as well as creative writing, especially someone who could perhaps teach Creative Nonfiction or the Graphic Novel, that is, area of the field that we are currently struggling to cover.

What say you? Literature is on board as far as I can tell with this notion. I'd like to hear comments about other sub specialties of interest, and anything else you have to say.

Eric
