cris, the idea of such a broad survey is impressive and would be useful, but the logistics could be nightmarish. I wonder if a fairly simple, Eng Dept-wide survey could be distributed and posted online, and also announced in CW classes. As ever, the trick is to find ways to get as many students as possible to provide feedback.

I'm not sure how popular the SGID (Small Group Instructional Diagnostic) program is at Oxford, but that structure/format could potentially work well for some/all current CW courses. At MUM, SGIDs are very well-organized and incredibly valuable ways for fac to receive student feedback on what is/isn't working well while the course is still in progress.

It strikes me that at what is an important moment of consultation we ought to try in some way to involve students and faculty on all Miami campuses in the discussions now planned for February 24th and March 16th.

IF, as is likely the case, we cannot get everybody into the same place at the same time i wonder if colleagues on different campuses might not stage broadly simlar exercises and the we can correlate any resultant information.

To recapitulate; the idea is to stage an informal conversation with CW students (and i'm not sure that we might not be smart to invite all English majors) about current provision and to perform some variation on a classic SWOT analysis (strength . weaknesses . opportunities and threats) in order to help us to move forwards with ideas to develop and perhaps enhance the program in CW at Miami?
