I don't like the practical criticism set as currently framed. Some of the
outcomes seem a little redundant maybe. C has no real content as a writing
outcome--it's about going to readings and writing them up, without details
about the writing outcomes expected. There is also an argument about
intentionality that has been smuggled into this that worries me a little.
The language of "mastery" also bugs me. I propose as an alternative
something like this, which I am cobbling together quickly between meetings:

            a. Demonstration of advanced close reading skills in
description and analysis of published work and peers' texts, with regard to
elements of craft (e.g. point of view, pacing, imagery, syntax)

         b. Demonstration of advanced close reading skills in description
and analysis of published work and peers' texts, with regard to the
aesthetics of the work or performance (the architecture of the whole) and
conventions of genre (including hybrid genres)

            c. Demonstration of ability to offer constructive practical
editorial assistance concerning the compositions of peers
