Correct me if I am wrong... but setup for PPP under Win95 is pretty simple if
you know the correct info (which should be readily provided in just 4 simple
lines of text somewhere - I've not found it yet).

BUT, I have done many PPP setups under Win95 and haven't had a problem with one
yet...

If you go to the Internet Tools group (Start Programs Accessories Internet
Tools) [and by the way if you do not have this on your system then just go
download ANY version of MS Internet Explorer and it will set it up for you when
you install the browser - though netscape is still a superior browser - it's
just an easy way of getting a simple PPP setup program]

Anyway, if you run this wizard it will ask you for the following lines (which
should be provided somewhere in the MU NEt world somewhere although I have not
come acrossed it (not easily come acrossed it at least).

1. How are they going to connect - usually if they are off campus it will be
via phone line or over a lan.

2. Do they want to use MS Exchange for mail and such - personall I suggest no
because it's a pain in the butt to use and too damn slow.

3. IP address... Use DHCP to choose one automatically or is one going to be
assigned? This is if they are setting up over a lan... they won't even see
this message if they are setting up to dial in.

4. Primary and secondary DNS servers.

5. Gateway address (again only if setting up over a lan).

That's it... That's all the info that needs to be provided... so for dial up a
person just needs to know this (as imagine most people are just going to be
doing dial up...

1. How to connect - other access provider.

2. No on exchnage for internet mail.

3. Give it a name - like Miami Net or MU Net

4. The phone number. And do they have to have a terminal window after
connecting? Some servers need this to have the password re-entered, others do
not... there is a check box for it.

5. User name and password.

6. Is the IP address dynamic or static? Assuming it is always provided on dial
in, they jus need to click next.

7. The primary and secondary DNS server numbers.

Hit finish and bingo - you've got your PPP dial up. SO above I said 4 simple
lines and here I have 7... it's still only 4 lines that need to be provided...

1. Phone Number
2. Their username and password
3. IP address static or dynamic?
4. The DNS servers

That's it.

If that information were provided somewhere out there most peopla would be able
to connect quite easily...

Ok, that's my 2 cents worth...

See ya later...

(why is my username clarkejc? Well I have to use my wife's account for news
because I can never get into news on my account for some silly reason so I just
use hers).
