The Access Servers for the ppp modem bank has been reset. This takes
care of the ppp lag problem most of the time. Also 2 modems have been reset (
tried to dial into them and nothing happens). This should handle the problems
with authentication. Because the problems with authentication have not been
consistent with every login attempt and combined with the fact that the
authentication log does not see the recent failed login attempts, the problem
appears to be with certain modems.

We will continue to search for said certain modems. Incidentally, the
authentication server does not serve ip addresses, just lets you go to next
step, letting the access server give you an ip address after the server
recieves a ppp command.

A good way to see what is going on (for now, while the modems are
still in test) is to login manually with the termial screen.

This will help you see when the connection fails. Unfortunately it
won't tell you what modem has failed when authentication has failed.
If authentication is sucessful and you
type ppp at the server prompt ( the prompt tells you what tty line is being fed
to the modem you have connected to {the tty lines are unique to each
modem}) you will be told what ip address is being served to you. This ip
address is unique to that modem, it is the only one that modem is assigned to.

With all this in mind it should be easy to identify individual modems.
Hopefully this helps explain how some of this works and if you can find what ip
address you have been served we can check that particular modem for problems.

Well, time to search for certain modems.
