  Here's my two cents...

First off, to find information on the 33.6 settings of your modem, contact
Zoom's home page.. You should be able to find the address fairly easially. They
do have online manuals for their modems.

Second, in a Byte magazine several issues back (+/-), they did a test where
they connected 33.6 modems together to see how they worked. It seems that some
brands of modems do not connect higher than 28.8 when trying to
connect to other brands with v.34+. Basically, they tested 20-30 different
models and cross tested them. They found that (from what my memory of the table
allows) about 50% of the 'mixes' didn't connect at high speeds (in this case,
over 28.8) and about 5-10% of them didn't even reach 28.8 in some combinations.
It is quite possible that your modem could have been one of the average
connections.

I will try and dig up the article and tell you how your modem scored against
the USRobotics Courier. As a note, however, I have a USRobotics Courier
v.Everything modem, upgraded to x2 even, and I think I have connected at 33.6
TWICE, and I don't even think the modem stayed at that speed for very long
either. I typically get 31,200bps. Remember, part of the concept behind v.34+
was to increase the chance of getting a 28.8 connection; plain v.34 averages a
26.4 bit rate.

ciao ciao
