                        Position Announcement
                       Administrative Officer
                  The Society for Applied Sociology

The Society for Applied Sociology (SAS) seeks to fill the position of
Administrative Officer. Founded in the late 1970s, SAS is dedicated to
support the work of applied and practicing sociologists who are
employed in both non-academic and academic organizations.
In addition, SAS seeks to improve the effectiveness of training
sociologists for applied roles in teaching, research, clinical
practice, program evaluation, administration, and consulting.

SAS seeks an individual who enthusiastically shares the above goals for
the discipline of sociology, and has the administrative skills and
experiences to lead the daily operations of the organization into the
21st century. The Administrative Officer should be dynamic and
self-motivated. Initiative, planning and organizing, decision-making,
delegating, budget and resource management, and communication skills
are of primary importance for this position.

Specifically, the person should be able to manage and deliver
the following: general monthly accounting, preparing mass
mailings, developing year end reports, and organizing/preparing
materials for and overseeing the annual meeting. The individual
will serve as the contact person for SAS and will need to have
the facilities and support to undertake the running and management
of the organization, as well as being able to house the organization
at his or her organization.

The Administrative Officer is compensated (based on experience and
qualifications) and reports directly to the President of SAS.
