OARnet is Ohio's regional Internet service provider, connecting
businesses, universities, and government agencies to the national
Internet backbones.  The rapid expansion of Internet operations
has created immediate openings for knowledgeable computer
professionals in the areas of network engineering.  OARnet is
located in a pleasant office environment in Upper Arlington,
adjacent to The Ohio State University west campus area.  OARnet
staff are members of the OSU administrative/professional staff and
enjoy a wide range of outstanding University benefits.
 
Network Engineering:  Senior engineering role in managing
OARnet network operations; coordinates the operations and
functions of the OARnet Network Support and Installation Groups,
with daily interaction between the OARnet Director and the
various OARnet groups.  Includes technical leadership, assignment
of tasks, review of technical work of network staff, and providing
training to network staff in complex aspects of the network.
Designs, coordinates activities, and ensures up-to-date procedures
and policies for interaction with the OARnet Network Operations
Center, clients, and other Internet service providers.
 
Maintains and troubleshoots complex and difficult network
problems, designs and recommends changes in network topology,
maintenance and scheduling procedures, and administers these
changes.  Recommends and tests new network technologies and
provides interoperability with existing OARnet operations.
 
Qualifications:  B.S. in engineering or computer science with
several years of highly relevant experience, experience with large
networks including the Internet, experience in network monitoring
and high-speed networks, knowledge of Internet protocols, and
familiarity with other protocols such as DECNET and OSI, and the
gateway protocols of the Internet.  Knowledge of UNIX systems is
highly desired.  M. S. in engineering or computer science desired.
