No huge wave of migrants at either of these locations north of Columbus, but a good morning nonetheless. I spent most of the morning visiting first Alum Creek Lake, then northern Hoover Reservoir. Waterbirds were not very numerous, but FOS Common Loons were at the southern end of Alum. The recent rains have raised enough water to cover most of the mudflats at Hoover, so shorebirds were non-existent. Landbirds had decent numbers of temperate migrants, especially sparrows and Yellow-rumps. Highlights:

Waterbirds - 4 Common Loons were at Alum Creek Lake (ACL), while Hoover had a flock of 25+ cormorants and a flock of 22 American Coots. Ducks were scarce at both, probably because of hunting season at Alum.

Gulls - the beach at Alum Creek Lake had a flock of 330+ Ring-bills, but the only other thing with them were 20 Herring Gulls

Raptors - a late Osprey was at New Galena on ACL, while Hoover had several kettles of Turkey Vultures, the largest being 36+ over Oxbow Island.

Woodpeckers - Sapsuckers were at both ACL (Visitor's Center) and Hoover (Wiese Rd), while Pileateds flew past at both the Visitor's Center and New Galena at ACL. Flickers were at most stops, with the high being 6 around the beach area at ACL.

Flycatchers, Swallows - unidentified Empid was near the ACL Visitor's Center, while a Phoebe was at New Galena. Hoover had a late Pewee at Oxbow Island. 5-6 Tree Swallows winged past New Galena early in the morning, but this species was absent from Hoover.

Blue Jays - no real movement at either reservoir; they just haven't had much of a migration thus far hereabouts.

Wrens, Kinglets - no late House Wrens, but a few Ruby-crowns and Golden Crowned Kinglets at most stops

Thrushes, Mimids - the only unusual thrush was a Hermit along the Wiese Rd bikepath. Mockingbirds were at several areas around ACL.

Pipits, Larks - no pipits yet, but Horned Lark flyovers were at the ACL beach and at New Galena.

Warblers - LOTS of Yellow-rumps, but there were also Palm Warblers at several stops around ACL as well as Area I at Hoover

Sparrows - the stars of the morning, with flocks of Chipping, Field, Song, and White-throats at many locations. Rarer sparrows were, well, rare, with a few White-crowns at the ACL Visitor's Center fields, and Swamps there and at Wiese Rd.

Blackbirds - small flocks of Redwings flying south over the ACL Beach and at New Galena, but scarce elsehwere.
