It was a very interesting day. Not with rarities (although I did have a
single white-winged scoter), but with numbers. From 7;00-8:30 I had 6
red-breasted mergansers. A little after 8:30 a huge group of mergansers
passed by. I estimated 29,300 birds in the flock and I missed the beginning
of the flock. After that there were occasional large flocks of mergs
heading east. I did not see too many flocks of less than 100 birds. Around
9:45 I started getting birds heading east and west, so I quit counting.
This was the largest flock I have seen here in quite some time.
